Brussels, 18 December 2013 – Carel du Marchie Sarvaas has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the International Federation for Animal Health (IFAH), the worldwide organisation representing the manufacturers of veterinary medicines. Du Marchie Sarvaas, a Dutch national, is currently director of agricultural biotechnology at EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries. He brings with him many years of experience as a senior public affairs and communications advisor in Brussels, The Hague, and Washington DC. Upon accepting the position, Mr du Marchie Sarvaas said: “I am excited about this move and grateful for the vote of confidence from the IFAH leadership. I look forward to working with the IFAH members on enhancing the awareness of the animal health industry across the globe, and look forward to engaging with the various stakeholders IFAH interacts with on an array of topics from fostering a regulatory environment that is conducive to the sector’s R&D work, to addressing issues such as global food safety and food security, and promoting science-based decision-making.” “With the appointment of Carel we have someone with significant public affairs and agriculture experiences at the helm of IFAH,” Jeff Simmons, President of IFAH and President of Elanco Animal Health added. “We need to ensure that the animal health sector’s voice is heard across the board and across the world on key issues such as food security, innovation, food safety, and spreading the message of the importance of the animal health industry to society as a whole, including human health. Reinforcing the message – “Healthy Animals, Healthier World” – will be key to Carel’s work at IFAH.”
